Why It’s Crucial to Let Children Do Hard Things.
/In our world filled with easy access and technology, shielding our children from experiencing challenges is common. Parents want to protect them from failure, frustration, and disappointment. But in doing this, we may inadvertently limit their resilience and growth.
Letting children do hard things, whether trying a new sport, a new coach, or a new environment, has many valuable benefits.
Grows Independence and Confidence: Allowing children to face obstacles empowers them to think independently and to problem-solve. When they get through that challenging thing and even in the middle of it, their confidence grows, and they learn to trust themselves.
Builds Resilience: They learn to persevere and keep striving when things get tuff. It also helps when a child has a strong support system that offers encouragement through challenging times.
Develops Emotional Intelligence: Navigating challenges helps children learn about their feelings and how to manage them. Children learn to work through frustrating and sometimes disappointing situations in healthy ways.
Supporting your child and allowing opportunities to learn will help your child feel more safe and secure in life. It is hard to watch a child struggle but the most rewarding part is to wait and observe the strength that develops in that child. Confidence is one of the most contagious things in this world, let's share some with the children in our lives.
