Spooky Myths About Swimming — Busted!

Busting Common Swimming Myths

There are plenty of spooky myths floating around about swimming and water safety. Let’s bust some of the most common ones!

Myth: You should wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming

This is one of the most persistent swimming myths out there. While it’s true that digestion diverts some blood flow to the stomach, there’s no scientific evidence that swimming after eating causes dangerous cramping. A light snack before swim lessons is perfectly fine.

Myth: Flotation devices keep kids safe in the water

Inflatable arm floaties and pool toys are NOT safety devices. They can actually create a false sense of security. The best protection is teaching children real swimming skills and water safety awareness.

Children who know how to swim are 88% less likely to drown. Don’t let myths prevent your family from prioritizing real water safety education.
