At Little Fins Swim School, our mission has always been bigger than teaching children how to swim. Our goal is to help eliminate childhood drowning through education, awareness, and life-saving swim instruction.

Today, we are proud to announce an exciting new partnership.

Little Fins Swim School is now an official member of Stop Drowning Now, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to ending drowning through education and community outreach.

Through this partnership, Little Fins will bring Stop Drowning Now’s powerful water safety curriculum and resources into schools, community organizations, and youth programs across Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado.

Why This Partnership Matters

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4 and one of the leading causes of accidental death for children overall. CDC 2026

Many drownings happen silently and quickly, often in places families feel safe, like backyard pools, lakes, and even bathtubs.colorado-springs-swim-lessons-water-safety

Organizations like Stop Drowning Now are working to change that by providing simple, effective water safety education that children can understand and remember.

Their nationally recognized program teaches the 5 Layers of Protection, helping families understand how multiple safety measures work together to prevent drowning.

These layers include:

  • Adult supervision

  • Barriers such as pool fencing

  • Water safety education

  • Life jackets and US Coast Guard approved flotation safety devices

  • Learning survival swim skills

When children and families understand these layers, they are far more prepared to prevent water emergencies.

Bringing Water Safety Education to Colorado Springs Schools

Through this new partnership, Little Fins Swim School will incorporate Stop Drowning Now’s curriculum into our community outreach programs.

Our team will be visiting:

    • Preschools

    • Elementary schools

    • Childcare centers

    • Community events

  • Family organizations

  • Businesses who are passionate about water safety

During these visits, children and families will learn age-appropriate water safety lessons that help them recognize danger and understand how to stay safe around water.

These interactive presentations help kids remember key safety messages like:

  • Always swim with an adult

  • Never enter water without permission

  • Know what to do if someone needs help

  • Understand basic rescue and safety concepts

By combining fun, engaging education with real-world safety knowledge, we can empower children to make safer decisions around water.

Expanding the Mission to Eliminate Drowning

At Little Fins, we believe drowning prevention requires a community effort.

Teaching children to swim is one critical piece, but education, awareness, and access to resources are equally important.

This partnership strengthens our ability to serve families not just ins

ide the pool, but throughout our community.

Together with Stop Drowning Now, we are working toward a future where every child in Southern Colorado understands how to stay safe around water.
