When people think of Little Fins, they think of babies learning to roll and float, or a nine-year-old finally nailing their flip turn. That’s still the heart of what we do. But a couple of years ago, I started thinking about what else our pools were good for.
Here’s the thing about a heated pool: it’s already built for stillness. Water holds you up. It moves sound in ways air just can’t. We spend all day teaching kids to trust the water so their bodies can relax into it. So it made sense to me that adults could use that same water for something different. Not a lesson, not a skill to master. Just rest.
That’s how Floating Sound Bath sessions came about. We host them periodically at our Union Boulevard location, and if you haven’t tried one yet, here’s what to expect.
What Actually Happens in the Water
You show up and step into a pool kept at a comfortable temperature made for floating, not swimming. There’s no treading water and nothing to prove. You settle onto a water hammock or an air mattress that the water supports from underneath, so your whole body gets to let go in a way that’s hard to do lying on solid ground. If you’re selecting a water hammock for the session, you’ll want to bring a bathing suit to change into. If you plan on laying on an air mattress, feel free to wear comfortable clothes and bring blankets, a pillow, or whatever else will allow you to fully relax.
Once everyone’s settled, the sound starts. We use singing bowls, chimes, gongs, and other instruments chosen for how their vibrations move through water. A lot of people tell us they can feel the sound in their chest or moving through areas where they carry tension. It’s part meditation, part sensory experience, and it tends to reach people who’ve never been able to sit still for a traditional meditation practice.
Sessions run 60 minutes and are open to adults looking for stress relief, better sleep, or just something different. Our facilitators stay present the whole time to keep things calm and make sure everyone’s comfortable.
Why Water Makes It Different
We already know how to run heated, climate-controlled pools every day of the year, so bringing sound healing into that setting was a natural fit. Sound moves through water differently than it does through air, and a water hammock lets your body release in ways a mat on dry land just can’t match.

Upcoming Sessions
We currently have two Floating Sound Bath sessions on the calendar: Sunday, July 26 and Saturday, August 22, both at our Union Boulevard location. Spots tend to fill quickly, so if either date works for your schedule, I’d book sooner rather than later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. The water hammock or air mattress keeps you floating without any swimming involved. The water stays calm and warm, and our facilitators are with you the entire session. If you feel any anxiety around water, reach out ahead of time and we’re happy to walk you through what to expect.
What should I wear or bring?
That depends on how you’ll be floating. If you’re on an air mattress above the water, comfortable clothes you can fully relax in work well, and a blanket or small pillow is a nice touch. If you’re floating in the water hammock, you’ll be partially submerged, so plan on a swimsuit and a towel, plus a robe or warm layers for afterward. Either way, we’d suggest skipping a heavy meal right before your session, since deep relaxation on a full stomach isn’t the most comfortable combination.
How often do you offer these?
Not on a weekly schedule. We schedule them periodically throughout the year, so the best way to stay in the loop is to reserve your spot as soon as new dates go up, since they tend to fill fast.
What if I fall asleep?
A lot of people do, and that’s completely fine. The water hammock keeps you safely supported the whole time, and our facilitators keep an eye on every participant. Some of the deepest rest happens right in that space between awake and asleep, so if your body wants to go there, let it.
